A study of the sectional conflict beginning with the nullification crisis. This course will not only examine the political, social and economic developments in the period leading to the Civil War, but will emphasize the political thought of Abraham Lincoln, Stephen Douglas, and John C. Calhoun.
Instructors: Dan Monroe is the Griswold Distinguished Professor of History at Millikin University. He is the author of The Republican Vision of John Tyler. Mackubin T. Owens is Professor of Strategy at the U.S. Naval War College. He has published widely on civilian-military relations, Lincoln, Grant, and the military strategy of the Civil War.
