Civil War and Reconstruction

This course will examine military aspects of the war, as well as political developments during it, including the political history of the Emancipation Proclamation, the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural. The course also examines the post-war Amendments and the Reconstruction era.

Instructors: Mackubin T. Owens is Professor of Strategy at the U.S. Naval War College. He has published widely on civilian-military relations, Lincoln, Grant, and the military strategy of the Civil War. Paul Moreno is Associate Professor of History at Hillsdale College and author of From Direct Action to Affirmative Action: Fair Employment Law and Policy in America, 1933-1972.
